data

A daily count of the publicly reachable Minecraft: Java Edition servers.

[what this is]

Every day we count the servers that answered and break the total down by protocol version, server software, country, network, port, advertised capacity, secure-chat setting, and how many of the previous thirty days each one was seen. The published file carries one row per day, dimension and bucket.

These are population statistics. No row describes an individual machine.

[what is not published]

The status response a Minecraft server sends can include the names and UUIDs of the players currently online. None of it reaches these files or any public endpoint.

Server icons are reduced to a hash before storage and the image bytes are discarded. No address, hostname or MOTD text appears in a published file.

[opting out]

Put lucky-optout anywhere in your server's MOTD and press Check on the opt-out page. No account, no code, no email, no reason required. You can take the word out again immediately.

An opt-out stops all further probing of that address and port, and the endpoint drops out of the next build of this dataset. Days already published stay as they are, because the daily table records totals rather than servers and a single endpoint cannot be subtracted from a figure afterwards. Each port that answers publicly needs a check of its own.
